Today is a big day for the footballers of Sligo and Roscommon – and it’s also a big day for Killeen Sports Grounds.

It is the first time since 1947 that a Connacht senior final will go ahead without Mayo or Galway, though both counties clash in the minor final.

For Killeen Sports Grounds, today will be the public unveiling of one of our big projects of the past few months.

After the National Football League campaign was over, we went into McHale Park, Castlebar, to carry out major repairs on the playing surface.

We’re very happy with how our work went, and hope that all who play on it – and those who look on, either on site or on tv – will find it to their satisfaction.

Here in Mayo, McHale Park is our Croke Park, and we take very seriously the business of getting the playing surface into the best possible shape.
